And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11
It was miraculous from the beginning, a virgin conceived by the Eternal Spirit of God birthed into the sin-shattered nation of Israel their long-awaited Savior. The writings of the prophets foretold him (Isa 7:14, 9:6-7, 44:3, Ch. 53, Mic 5:2. The Psalms lifted the curtain to reveal details surrounding his arrival (Ps 16:10, 22:1, 8, 16, 18, 27, 41:9, & 69:21). And the law foreshadowed him (Gen 3:15, 49:10; Exo 3:13-14 – Joh 8:12 & 58, 18:8, Deu 18:15).
Not all of Israel, but the devout believers of God’s Word, knew one day he would appear, and they were looking for him. His disciples knew the Word and questioned Jesus about the fulfillment of the scriptures (Mat 24:3). The devoted Simeon waited patiently for him in the temple (Luk 2: 25-26).
The lady in Samaria also knew the Messiah would show up and then reveal truth (Joh 4:25). Here are a few examples of people who were looking for Jesus, the miracle from Heaven who would deliver Israel from captivity and lift them from under the weight of years of being persecuted and despised.
And so it is today in 2024, there are a people on earth who are also looking for the Messiah. In this endtime age we are now living in, some are looking for more than just the norm, something that surpasses mediocrity, and an answer to questions that cannot come through powerless Christianity.
People are looking for and in need of a miracle. And these are just the kind of people God himself has answers for. Because God is in the miracle-working business. The early church as recorded in the Book of Acts was a dynamic, power-filled church where signs and wonders followed them (Act 2:43, 5:12, 8:13 & 14:3). These things were proof to those witnessing the church’s impact in society that God was working in the midst of them.
What does this all mean? It means that the day of miracles is not over. In fact, each and every day God is birthing miracles similar to the one He did over 2,000 years ago in the little town of Bethlehem. The difference is today God is not overshadowing virgins to conceive new physical births. But He is overshadowing sinners with the Holy Spirit (the same spirit that was in Jesus Rom 8:11) and making them “new creatures” with the second birth of water AND spirit (Joh 3:3, 7-8, 7:37-39).
The enemy cannot prevent the light of God’s truth from piercing the darkness of futility, hopelessness, chaos, anxiety, and angst pervading our present age. It was said by a minister that God will try with everything at His disposal to invade the soul’s well of darkness and penetrate it with His light of truth, love and hope. And He will only stop when it appears that all hope is lost for that soul of reaching out to grasp and hold on to that longing eternal hope (Isa 42:3; Mat 12:20).
Today someone experienced or will experience before the night is over a miracle birth. It will be a spiritual new birth, or a renewing of the Spirit connected to the One who gives that new birth. And the same will happen tomorrow and the next day until Jesus’ return to earth.
Jesus is still birthing miracles. Another miracle is born today even in 2024.
Merry Christmas
